Gamay loves granite and South Africa has lots of it, so it makes perfect sense to grow the Beaujolais grape there. Radford Dale has made a stunningly bright, silky wine with bunches of ripe red fruit notes with a hint of white pepper. It weighs in at a featherweight 11.5% alc, so it makes for a lovely lunchtime red to enjoy with charcuterie, cheese and a warm crusty sourdough. Drink now-2025.
The estate is the brainchild of Aussie Ben Radford and Brit Alex Dale who crossed paths in Burgundy and later in South Africa. They eventually set up the Radford Dale estate in 1998 in the Stellenbosch region of South Africa. Ben returned to the Barossa Valley but Alex remains to continue the tradition of producing excellent wines from vineyards located in the Devon Valley (3ha) and Helderberg Mountain (4ha).
